About the Teacher
RUSSELL STOLL - ENGLISH 12
[email protected] Russell Stoll is the English 12 teacher and Leadership advisor at Da Vinci Design High School. It's Stoll's philosophy as an English teacher that the best way to get students to understand the motives and strategies of writers, be it authors or journalists or critics, is to have students take on these different roles and styles themselves. He looks forward to challenging his Senior students so that they are college ready, and is available as an added resource for them as they prepare college applications, essays, and personal statements. He focuses on finding ways to invest and engage students in what they are learning. He recognizes the importance of sparking students' motivation, and that persistence, effectiveness and passion are integral to being successful in school and in the world that awaits students beyond Da Vinci. Stoll has been a part of the Da Vinci family since the 2009-2010 school year when he first joined as an academic coach. Stoll received his B.A. in English, emphasis in Creative Writing in Fiction, from UCLA in 2009. Stoll likes to stay active outside of teaching. He completed his 200 yoga teacher certification in Fall of 2012, and happily shares his yoga practice by teaching a Health, Wilderness and Yoga seminar at Da Vinci, as well as teaching occasional classes to the staff of Da Vinci. As a born and bred southern California native from Ventura, he has a love for the beach and the mountains, and is an active snowboarder in the winter. As a life-long learner, he loves trivia games; it is also a poorly kept secret at Da Vinci that Stoll loves karaoke. |
