EX) “Fair is foul, and foul is fair / Hover through the fog and filthy air.” (1.1.10-11)
a. Speaker: The Weird Sisters (all)
b. Context: The witches have just opened the play by discussing that they will meet again after a battle being fought; there is a storm going on.
c. Summary: The witches are saying that what’s right is wrong, and what’s wrong is right, in this world.
d. Analysis: This moment is significant because it tells us that this play is going to be very backwards. Especially since this scene would have featured bearded men playing women, it would have set a creepy, unsettling tone.
