Greetings Seniors! Welcome back to Da Vinci Design for you final year of high school. This last year will be a great opportunity to apply and expand all of the skills you have learned so far. In English 12 alone, you'll end the world, alter society, reach nirvana, and fall in love. Figuratively, of course. But let's start at the beginning - it's usually a good place to start. Here's what's in store for This Week: |
Tues (8/18): Welcome to English 12: For our first class of the year, we will focus mainly on getting to know each other a bit, on learning about what 12th grade classroom etiquette looks like, and on
Wed/Thurs (8/19 & 8/20): Nuts and Bolts: Our second class of the year will focus on taking care of the necessary business: syllabus, journals, iPad assignments, and a start-of-the-year survey.
FIRST, though, we will engage in some Noble Silence.
Here is our article for the day:

Aside from going over the survey and the syllabus, we will also be going an editing activity that will be our first writing activity in our new journals.
Friday (1/16): Intro to Cormac McCarthy and The Road: For our last class before the weekend, we will begin looking at our first novel of the year: "The Road". We will familiarize ourselves with the major themes of the novel. We will also meet the author, McCarthy, and explore his inspiration for writing this dark but moving novel.
Due next Monday: Students should arrive having read up to page 55 of The Road.
I'm looking forward to a great start to a new year - and what's more fun than starting with the end of the world?
Yours Truly,
---Stoll
