Greetings Groundlings, This week, we start a new unit, a new theme, and a new author. This time of the school year is one of my favorites: it's time for Shakespeare! We will first be encountering one of his most gory and spooky, magic and epic, tragic plays of all time. A play so cursed some hesitate to say its name aloud: Macbeth! Here's what's in store for this week (including important links to videos we will watch!) |
Here are the videos we will be watching in class:
1) Shakespeare: Brief and Naughty
2) The Supersizers Go... Elizabethan!
3) Translating Yoda (see link above)
4) Elizabethan Theatre
5) Shakespeare "OP" (Original Pronunciation)
6) Insults by Shakespeare
Wed/Thurs (10/5,10/6): Shakespeare's England and Intro to Macbeth: For the last block of this short week, we will wrap up our Immersion into Elizabethan culture, and we will start watching Macbeth.
*Check back for in-class notes to be posted on Friday*
Friday (10/7): Macbeth Act I.5: Lady Macbeth: For our last class of the week, we have the dubious pleasure of meeting one of the strongest, deadliest, evil women in all of Shakespeare (and obviously my personal favorite): Lady Macbeth! We will cover Act I, scene V and see who really runs the Macbeth household.
You guys are so lucky to get to experience Shakespeare at his creepiest, witch-iest, and dramatic-est! I really hope that you enjoy this play as much as I do!
Yours Truly,
---Stoll
