Mon/Tues (9/18,9/19): Da Vincipocalypse, Phase 1: Survival Presentations: For our first class of the week, we will be presenting our survival research, survival guides, and our prototype shelters! Students will provide feedback to presenting groups about their prototype shelters in preparation for building their full scale shelters next week.
Click below to find the "Unit I: Da VIncipocalypse" Project Resources Page, and to find resources like the presentation overview, the presentation rubric, the survival diary requirements, permission slip, etc. Unit 1: Da Vincipocalypse Project Resources Wed/Thurs (9/20,9/21): Microfiction and the Survival Diary: For our second block of the week, we will read short story called "Barbie-Q" to gain an understanding of what makes for a good microfiction. This style of short story writing is something that we will use for the creative writing portion of DaVincipocalypse: The Survival Diary. The overview for the Survival Diary, as well as other requirements for the Shelter Building project, can be found under "Phase 2 Overview" on the Unit I Project page. See above for the link. It is at the end of class that students will also get more information about the DaVincipocalypse campout, and will receive the permission slip for the campout. Permission slips are due in class on Tuesday, 9/27. Friday (9/22): Build Week Prep and Visiting Architects: For our final block of the week, we will take some time to prepare for building our full scale model shelters starting next week. Student will have a very special opportunity to meet up with some visiting, professional architects to get feedback on their shelter ideas! NOTE: On Saturday, 9/23, students will have the opportunity to meet up with Stoll at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Gardena as an opportunity to get free materials to build with! If you were absent, please see a classmate for notes! After the section 1 Q&A, we will discuss the overview for our first project of the year: the Da Vincipocalypse. Students are placed in their groups and then have time to meet for the first time to discuss group roles, responsibilities, and the subject of their apocalyptic scenario.
