For our next Honors assignment, you will be doing a short literary analysis of one or more short works of your author.
Resources:
- Refer back to the email Stoll sent you between 10/9-10/15 called "Honors Chat". This email provides specific feedback for you, prompting questions relating to potential ideas for analysis, and notes from our chat.
- Below is an email that gives guidance to one student who wanted more specifics on the requirements for Assignment 2.
Email sent on 10/15:
Hey [Honors Student],
Glad you got the email I sent with the notes form our chat. The purpose of this paper is to get you started in analyzing the first work from your chosen author. You ONLY need to talk about Miriam, your one short story. You do not need to read Breakfast at Tiffany's, an additional long work, until assignment 4. The paper itself also does not yet have to have a set, overall focus or argument yet. However, it would serve you well to keep each paragraph focused on one part of your short piece, organizing each paragraph by a theme, a literary device you noticed being used, a certain topic or subject matter, etc. As long as you are starting to pull evidence and add commentary/analysis to it, it will get you started. While normally English teachers will tell you NOT to make baseless assertions and just comment wildly on stary evidence, that's exactly what I AM asking you to do :)
Formally, the exact requirements would be:
Hope this helps - if you have more questions, let me know, or we can talk more in office hours if you get stuck. This honors process is tough, and I fully expect to answer lots of questions from all of my honors people. Don't be shy.
