Mon/Tues (10/5,10/6): Intro to Policy Brief; Lorraine Hansberry: For this block, we will spend the first part reviewing Ethos, Pathos and Logos by watching a very persuasive speech concerning gun control, school safety, and the NRA. We will use this speech and our class discussion on it to launch into our Unit II project on writing for public policy. For the second half of our block period, we will be introduced to Lorraine Hansberry, the author of our next piece of literature: A Raisin in the Sun. NOTE: This week, the 12th grade team will be running a modified schedule to that Gov't/English classes can host visiting advocacy groups ACLU, CLCC, and CLRJ to speak to our seniors about writing public policy and policy briefs. Thursday will be an "all periods" schedule with presentations in the AM. On Friday, after advisory/CD, we will run a Thursday schedule.
Thurs (10/8): Public Policy Presentations from CLCC and CLRJ *All Period Schedule today!*: Today, the 12th grade will be following a modified schedule which starts with presentations from two visiting advocacy groups. After seeing one of four presentations, students will rotate though all of their core classes for a shortened amount of time. In English 12, students will have time to work in their Policy Brief pairs.
