After lots of planning and prototyping, presenting and building, you will finally get to spend a night in the shelters you have created in response to the apocalyptic scenario that you have designed. Mon (9/7): Labor Day - No School
Tues/Wed (9/8,9/9): Rhetorical Devices and Speaking Skills: For our first block of the week, we will be revisiting our favorite rhetorical devices: Ethos|Pathos|Logos. There will be lecture, notes, and clips to help students develop a deeper, college-level understanding of these devices. Students will have time during Noble Silence and at the end of class (time permitting) to work on preparing resources/outlines/evidence for the short-response essay portion of the test on 9/10,9/11. Thurs/Fri (9/10,9/11): Test on The Road: For our second and last block of the week, we will wrap up our time with The Road in a reading analysis test. Students should expect a multiple choice section followed by a short answer response section. Time remaining can be used for group to work on their Da Vincipocalypse presentations due the following week. For prompts and class notes regarding the short-response section of the test, see resources below: Mon/Tues (8/31,9/1): Researching Survival: For our first class of the week, we will start by answering some questions about the fourth section of The Road (pg. 129-175). After the section 4 Q&A, we will have time to research our Survival Guide chapters in our groups. Students have time to discuss group roles, responsibilities, and the subject of their apocalyptic scenario, and will fill out a survey as a group defining these things. If you were absent, please see a classmate for notes! After the section 5 Q&A, we will discuss how McCarthy uses symbolism in The Road. Friday (9/4): Tone and Mood in The Road: For our last block of the week, we will wrap up our reading of The Road with one last Q&A about pg. 242-289. If you were absent, please see a classmate for notes! NOTE: 9/4 Friday is Picture Day at DVDesign! REMINDER: Students interested in English 12 Honors must submit the first honors assignment to TurnItIn.com by 5pm on 9/8 in order to be eligible. See the "Honors" tab for more information. REMINDER AGAIN: Ms. Martinez and Mr. Stoll will be at Trash 4 Teaching on Saturday, Sept. 12th (NOT Sept. 5th) from 9am to 12pm.
